The frowning and squinting we do all day cause the facial muscles between our eyebrows to contract. Over time, frown lines begin to form. Xeomin® is used in the forehead, usually between the brows to help soften frown lines and wrinkles, to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. It can also be used to treat specific eye muscle conditions caused by nerve disorders.
During your treatment, your practitioner will inject Xeomin® into your forehead. A topical anesthetic or a cold pack may be used to reduce discomfort. The procedure takes about 10–20 minutes.
Results can be seen in as little as a week after your treatment, sometimes as soon as 4 days or less. Full results can take about 30 days to occur and last roughly three months, according to manufacturer clinical trials. Depending on individual patients, results may last significantly longer or shorter.

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines — the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling and raising the eyebrows over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of the frown lines between your brows, your crow’s feet lines and your forehead lines.
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with results lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You can trust BOTOX® Cosmetic to deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. So you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines. No one should be able to tell you’ve had anything done.

Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your specialist can instead apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.
The injection process takes a quick 10 minutes. Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you.
Treatment requires minimal downtime. So you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office.
Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic is customized to your goals and needs. When you meet with your specialist, he or she will determine the appropriate treatment for any areas you wish to address, including moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. Remember, only BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved to treat all three of these areas.
For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the muscle that frames the other eye.
For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into the muscles between your brows and in your forehead.
For the forehead lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into a muscle in your forehead.
Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Please see the Important Safety Information including Boxed Warning and Medication Guide and talk to your specialist.
Dysport® is a prescription injection administered by a licensed healthcare professional to treat moderate to severe frown lines (those wrinkles between the eyebrows).
Medically, it’s a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. It temporarily prevents specific muscle movements that cause frown lines.
Administered by a licensed healthcare professional, Dysport® is supplied as a single-use, sterile 300-unit vial. The dose of Dysport® for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines between your eyebrows) is a total of 50 units injected equally among the specific muscles. The dose of Dysport® is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used.
Although office visits can vary, the procedure generally takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Though results vary, there is typically a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows within 2-3 days.1-3*
*A secondary endpoint based on Kaplan-Meier estimates of cumulative rate of time to onset of response. The median time to onset of response was 3 days in GL-1 (Dysport 55/105 [52%], Placebo 3/53 [6%] and GL-2 (Dysport 36/71 [51%], Placebo 9/71 [13%]), and 2 days in GL-3 (Dysport 110/200 [55%], Placebo 4/100 [4%]).1-3
One treatment of Dysport® can last for up to 4 months,† so the effect of repeat treatment with Dysport® may be comparable to the first use.
†GL-1 and GL-3 evaluated subjects for at least 150 days following treatment. Based on investigator assessment, response was maintained for up to 4 months in both GL-1 (Dysport 24/105 [23%], Placebo 2/53 [4%]) and GL-3 (Dysport 58/200 [29%], Placebo 1/100 [1%]).2-4
The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea.
Dysport® and Botox are both made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport® is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used.
